During the final year of the Visual Communication Design course at Stellenbosch University, we were encouraged to collaborate with NGOs and local communities as we explored the dimensions of sustainable design.

As my project theme I looked at green space design issues in Stellenbosch and surrounding areas.

This project documents the successful implementation of basic food container gardens at two creches in Kayamandi. Much has been attempted to eliminate the green space problem that exists in the township, but few projects have succeeded due to poverty, lack of education, lack of water and various cultural reasons.

The food container garden was successfully tailored to the micro-communities needs and is now assisting the feeding of two large creches.

I documented the process in this concertina book.
